In an interview with the researcher at the Economic and Social Policy Observatory, Firas Jaber, on the “Media Front” program, prepared and presented by Talaat Alawi, which is broadcast on Al-Raqeeb Radio, he said that the issue of the economy is currently a political issue due to the ethnic cleansing and genocide inflicted on our people by the occupation, and he added that the Palestinian government, according to For its statement that it is responsible for the Palestinian people inside the West Bank and Gaza Strip, this means that it is charged with protecting the rights of the Palestinian people in these areas, stressing that the Palestinian government today has lost confidence and fallen by virtue of its absence from the scene, concealment of its role from the scene, and its complete failure to manage and confront the crisis, because it is Responsible for protecting the Palestinians, their security, their injuries, and their lives. He added that the government spends billions on security, and therefore it is charged with protecting the Palestinians, even in battles against any enemy. This is its highest duty, and there is no government in the world that does not protect its citizens. That is why it creates armies and security, and it is not made for Internal oppression of people.

Jaber added that the Palestinian government is composed of several ministries, and each ministry has a budget. It was expected from the first day of the aggression that the government would be transformed into an emergency government, meaning that every ministry working on its file regarding the aggression, such as the health ministers, had to pay more attention to health matters, securing medicines, and opening the crossing through… Pressure on international organizations regarding the health sector in the Gaza Strip, and the emergency government is working to deal with this war on our people. He said that he did not want to compare with the occupation, but the occupation formed a war government and an emergency government, and he expressed his regret, saying, “We did not form anything, perhaps a cell.” The crisis they formed relates to their internal crisis as a government or the crisis that has to do with embarrassment.”

He also said that whoever cries over the media is incapable of action, as the government has presented to us an image of crying and not an image of a government and a man responsible for the people, stressing that the responsible person acts and does not cry, and the Palestinian people are a steadfast people and do not cry for their government to come out and present an image of helplessness and crying, and the Prime Minister demanded an emergency government speech. New, even if it includes stepping down because he is incapable, at least out of respect for the blood of the Palestinian people.

He described the diplomatic performance as shabby and weak, with the exception of some ambassadors who made personal efforts. He also wondered about the role of these embassies, especially in countries that have shown sympathy with the Palestinian people, especially since the billions of shekels are spent on embassies to do their role.

He stressed that there is a huge disconnect between the Palestinian government and society, meaning that we did not see any government official taking to the street, and in his opinion, it would have been better for them to go out to the street to reflect the idea of popular anger, stressing that these demonstrations are against the occupation and not against the government, and yet we did not see any prominent figures in the government coming out. To the street. On the contrary, there was a disruption of public life, including the disruption of schools and universities, and the disruption of even professional life in departments and institutions through the financial crisis. All of this was intended by the government and authority’s unwillingness to have a popular movement against aggression and against war. He said that this is how people were controlled through their situation. In their homes and put them to sleep.

He expressed his dissatisfaction because a number of government ministers, such as Spain and Belgium, went to the Rafah crossing while the Palestinian government minister did not take any step. Jaber believes that the government could have put pressure on the international community to even enter Gaza and establish a field hospital, but this government is only concerned with positions.

Clearing crisis

“There was a decision by the authority and the government to disrupt public life and partially create a salary crisis, in order to put the Palestinian people to sleep.”
He commented on the salaries, saying that there are 20,000 civilian employees in the government, so from the beginning of the crisis it was supposed to pay a full salary while canceling all deductions, even those related to previous decisions in the Gaza Strip, and to deliver these salaries through the mail or through the banks that were effective at the beginning of the war. He stressed that local revenues, valued at 36%, were sufficient to pay the salaries of the government sector and the salaries of poor families in the Gaza Strip. This is not the first time that the government has gone through a similar crisis. Previously, it borrowed from banks to pay salaries, but this time it did not do anything. He added that the claim The government’s austerity did not abolish petty cash.

European finance

He added that the government and the Monetary Authority had many ways to reject conditional financing, such as what was stipulated on the families of the martyrs, but the government turned around this issue by transferring the salaries of the families of the martyrs through the mail and did not reject it, stressing that the banks profit billions from the Palestinians, and yet he dared to say that there is no account. For this institution or family of martyrs or prisoners, this is incorrect and illegal according to the Palestinian Basic Law, as there is no discrimination between Palestinians, and this is considered discrimination by legal and constitutional rights.

He concluded his speech by saying that future financing conditions depend on condemning what happened on October 7, and therefore, if you do not condemn, you will not receive funding. This is other than the security examination of the history of the institution or the people affiliated with it, stressing that if there was a political effort, these funds would be rejected and not welcomed. As long as it worked against the interest of the Palestinian people, the situation would have been different, and it called for turning to other methods of financing, namely the Palestinian communities or countries supporting the Palestinian people, and even European institutions that may change their position in the event that a decisive decision is taken by us.
