The Palestinian Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs reported on Sunday that conditions inside Israel’s Gilboa Prison have become extremely harsh, with a deliberate escalation of violence and mistreatment against Palestinian prisoners.

According to the Commission’s lawyer, Israeli prison authorities have been conducting violent raids, beating inmates, and subjecting them to brutal and terrifying assaults. Many detainees are suffering from broken ribs, hearing and vision problems, and abdominal pain resulting from repeated beatings to the head, eyes, and torso.

On April 21, 2025, a particularly violent raid took place when special units accompanied by aggressive police dogs stormed the prisoners’ cells. The dogs reportedly attacked and mauled several inmates, causing deep wounds and multiple injuries.

A second raid occurred on April 28, when prison forces stormed Room 16 in Section 5 and beat eight detainees in a hysterical and indiscriminate attack.

The lawyer also warned of a widespread outbreak of scabies among prisoners, who are reportedly receiving no medical treatment. Some detainees are suffering from painful skin boils, and many have been further punished by being denied their daily time in the prison yard.

Among those affected is Ibrahim Al-Ramadi, 23, from Sheikh Jarrah in Jerusalem. Al-Ramadi suffers from chronic migraines and a congenital heart condition that requires special medication. Since his detention, he has not received any of the necessary treatments. He, too, contracted scabies months ago and remains in distress.

Another prisoner, Nasser Ba’ara, 29, from Nablus, is suffering from broken ribs and widespread bruising across his body as a result of severe beatings during the latest crackdown.

The Commission has called for urgent international intervention to stop the systematic abuse and to ensure immediate medical care for the prisoners.
