The Government of Japan decided to extend its new assistance to the Palestinian people of 64,025,500 USD through international organizations and Japanese NGOs, addressing the deteriorating humanitarian situations especially in Gaza Strip and the growing importance of stabilization inside Palestine and beyond.
This new package composes the following areas of projects to be implemented by relevant international organizations and Japan’s NGOs:
- Urgent humanitarian assistance covering food security, water and sanitation, healthcare, education, and mine action through UNRWA, WFP, ICRC, IFRC, UNMAS and Japan Platform (JPF, a coalition of Japan’s NGOs)
- Reproductive health and women protection through UNFPA, UNWOMEN, and IPPF
- Facilitation of people and goods movements cross borders, through UNOPS and Office of the Quartet
- Support for agricultural sector and its value chain through UNIDO and FAO
With the new assistance, Japan’s total assistance to the Palestinian People has amounted to 2.4 billion USD Since 1993. Japan has not been providing only its bilateral assistance to the Palestinian Authority, but extending its assistance also through UN agencies and Japanese NGOs, as well as to local NGOs and municipal councils.
